Doing science as feminists? Reflections from a situated epistemology.
We invite you to the conference “Doing science as feminists? Reflections from situated epistemology” by Professor Carme Adán. The event is co-organized by the UNESCO Chair in Gender Equality, the Peruvian Network of Science, Technology and Gender and the Master in Gender Studies of the PUCP. The event will take place on Saturday, June 26th at 10AM (Peruvian time) via zoom and will be in Spanish. The conference seeks to analyze what is understood by feminist epistemology and what are its most relevant contributions in the construction of knowledge.
Conference abstract:
“We will begin by reviewing how feminist epistemologies have among their fundamental objectives to contribute to a real change in knowledge that entails ways of intervention from a perspective that favors women. In this sense, objectivity, far from being eliminated from the feminist agenda, comes to the forefront. Feminist epistemologists are the most interested in showing the erroneous nature of conceiving objectivity in terms of value neutrality, which is why they propose to rescue it from relativism. This position is coherent with the normative character of feminist epistemologies. For feminists, contributions to knowledge must imply a capacity for intervention. Therefore, epistemologists are obliged to delve into the problem of objectivity or, in other words, into the possible mechanisms for discerning between different worldviews. In this context, objectivity is subjected to a reconfiguration by introducing into the debate the ethical-political dimension.”
