The Honoring PUCP Pioneers tribute was organized by the Gender Studies Research Group and the UNESCO Chair on Gender Equality in Higher Education Institutions at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru with the aim of highlighting and celebrating the academic career of Dr. Narda Henríquez Ayín, named professor emeritus of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru in 2020. Dr. Narda Henríquez Ayín is one of the professors who paved the way in the field of teaching and research and whose work, dedication and innovative ideas have encouraged, promoted and facilitated the path for many generations of students. For this reason, she has been distinguished as one of the PUCP pioneers. The text that we present corresponds to the appreciation speech offered by Dr. Narda Henríquez Ayín on the day of the ceremonywhich took place on December 21, 2020.

About Dr. Narda Henríquez Ayín

Narda Henríquez Ayín holds a PhD in Sociology from L’Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (France), is a senior lecturer and researcher at the Academic Department of Social Sciences of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP). She has a wide academic production around Inequalities, social policies and globalization, social movements and conflicts, human rights and citizenship, political sociology and gender studies. She has been director of the Ph.D. in Sociology, coordinator of the M.A. in Sociology and co-founder of the Diploma in Gender Studies at PUCP. She has also been Dean of the National College of Sociologists of Peru, Researcher of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and co-founder of the Peruvian Women’s Center Flora Tristán. Her distinctions include the 2018 Legacy and Lifetime Achievement Award from the Peru Section of the Latin American Studies Association (LASA) and being named professor emeritus of the Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (2020).
